An archaeology team from Southern Adventist University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem uncovered an ivory hair comb that features the first known complete, alphabetic sentence ever discovered. Discovered at Tel Lachish in Israel during a 2016 excavation, the sentence found on the comb was written in the Caananite language, which is the predecessor to all modern alphabets.
As featured in the New York Times, CNN, and Jerusalem Post, Dr. Michael Hasel, professor of archaeology at Southern Adventist University and co-director of the Lachish excavations, shares the story of this discovery just as it was published, and discusses the important implications this remarkable finding has for us today.
