Lift up the trumpet and loud let it ring, Jesus is coming again. Cheer up you pilgrims, be joyful and sing, Jesus is coming again. I'm homesick for heaven. So dear to My heart is the promise of God, a home with the pure and blessed. Where're weary pilgrims?

George W. Truett, the well-known minister and evangelist, was being entertained at the home of a wealthy oil man in the state of Texas. After dinner, his host took him up to the roof of his palatial house to see the huge forest of oil derricks on every side. Dr. Truett, that's all mine.

Twenty-five years ago I came to this country penniless. Now I own everything as far as you can see in that direction." Then he turned to the opposite direction and said, It's all mine. I own everything as far as you can see in that direction. Turning to the east, he made the same statement. Finally, he turned to the West, pointed to a great virgin forest and said, That's all mine, too.

I have worked hard and saved, and today I own everything, as far as you can see, in every direction. The multimillionaire paused for expected praise. To his astonishment, it didn't come. Dr. Truett laid a hand lovingly upon his shoulder, pointing heavenward, said, My friend, how much do you own in that direction?

The man dropped his head and said, I have never thought of that. Everyone is looking skyward, heavenward, spaceward today, though not all for the same reason. 1 of the greatest newspapers of this century uses a headline, World's fate to hinge on man's use of space. Scientists tell fateful choice facing nations, war, limitless benefits. The author declares that man's invasion of space is tomorrow's cradle of fantastic new human boons.

Better weather forecasting, even control of weather, or the threat of using weather as a terrible weapon to destroy enemies. The secrets of the stars, of the moon, and of the sun may be made known. Or space as tomorrow's battleground of savage, silent war. Since there is no atmosphere there, there would be no sound even when great explosions took place. The writer speaks of possible war between space ships and rockets whirling at dizzy speeds.

Eminent scientists—American, British, Russian, French, and others—predict that men will fly in space aboard space cruisers or platforms circling the earth. From these same platforms warfare could be conducted with lethal missiles aimed down at any spot on earth with deadly accuracy. Great telescopes aboard these artificial satellites could gaze clearly into space for vast distances. The same telescopes could peer down on the earth, skies, spies, observing every troop or airplane or rocket movement. TV attachments could make the watching automatic for continuous surveillance.

Germany's Professor Hermann Oberth foresees gigantic mirrors hung in space, focusing the sun's rays as by magnifying glasses at any desired intensity. Thus the sun's rays could light entire cities at night, or disperse killing frosts over orchards, melt Atlantic icebergs, even ice-bound seaports. Or as a military weapon, these rays could set afire whole cities and forests. What is there that men do not aspire to do? Sputniks and U.S.

Satellites, the scientists declare, are peaceful enough, but at the same time are messengers to learn what space is like, how it could be used in time of war. The great question is, is the space above the earth destined for peace or war? The decision is said to be political. There may be only a few years left, and so on and on goes the debate. Just how far man will go, we do not know.

We are told that after the great flood in Noah's day, which changed the surface of the earth, by the way, this whole world was of 1 language. This contributed greatly to unity of action, planning, and exultation. In fact, they decided to build a gigantic tower whose top may reach unto heaven, as the Scripture says. Genesis 11, verse 4. God had instructed the race to scatter itself abroad upon the earth.

They said, No, we'll build a city and this mighty tower, and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. Verse 4. With 1 language, 1 ambition, 1 government, they evidently felt that there would be no limit to their accomplishments. In the sixth verse we read, And the Lord said, Behold, a people is 1, and they have all 1 language, and this they begin to do. And now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do.

Are we not in a situation something like that today? Though we do not have 1 language, we do have 1 civilization which is rapidly spreading over all the earth. 1 philosophy, the philosophy of natural science. Is it not the belief that nothing is too hard for the human race, if it but sets its mind to it and unites in doing it? Have we not reached the place, now, where millions believe in a constant increase of knowledge and infinite progress?

Is it not true again that whatsoever man can imagine, man can do, has become the philosophy governing the earth today? It seems so. Men are not satisfied to be masters of the earth alone. They desire also to master space and the heavens beyond. Does not mankind need to learn humility today?

God knows our down-sitting and our up-rising. P. 139, 2. The King's heart is in the hand of the Lord. P.

21, 1. Of all true believers it is written, We are thy people and the sheep of thy pasture. P. 79, 13. Mankind has been given the earth as his own, the kindergarten of the great university of the universe.

The earth hath he given to the sons of men, but the heavens are thine, the earth also, speaking to God. Psalm 89, 11. Man's rulership over this earth will continue as long as it pleases the Lord. He will go as far in space as God permits him to go. His divine decree will go forth as the waves of the sea, hitherto shalt thou come, but no further.

Job 38, 11. The Scripture uses the word heavens for space, that is, the atmospheric heavens surrounding the earth. In some places in Scripture this is called the firmament or the expansion, a very good name for the atmosphere, which causes the changes of temperature by its expansion and contraction and many other important phenomena. Next comes the heavens of the stars, the stellar heavens, planetary heavens, the heavens of the moon, sun, the island universes. Third and last is the heaven of God's throne, the great centre of the universe, the heaven of heavens, Psalm 148, 4.

But will men build a floating platform in the sky, a small city in the sky? We cannot say. But Scripture plainly describes a space city in the sky. It's here in Revelation, the twenty-first chapter. And I, John, saw the holy city in New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

What a sight it will be! From any spot on the earth, it will appear to fill the whole hemisphere of the sky, from horizon to horizon. By reading verse 16, we learn this city is at least 1500 miles in circumference, 350 miles on each side. The city in her beauty is called the Bride, the Lamb's Wife. Verse 9.

John says it second time, as if for emphasis. He showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God, and her light was like unto a stone most precious. The beauty of it and the glory of it hanging there in the sky are beyond our imagination. In a mind's eye we can see it moving majestically, descending out of heaven from God, the space city of all the ages. It does not stay in the sky, it does not float in some orbit about the earth, it is coming to the earth.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. That's the wonder of it. God's city, God's space that is in the sky, is to be the capital of this earth renewed, the new Jerusalem. When the Saviour went away from this earth, He said, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself." That's John 14.

This city from the sky is the place prepared, the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Hebrews 11, 10. Stop worrying. Begin wondering, looking, longing, hoping, trusting. Someday you'll see God's space city in the sky, and by His grace have a place there.

2 people were walking along a road in the suburbs of a great city. It really wasn't a road, just a muddy path after a storm. Their shoes were almost ruined, hats dripping water, clothes soaked. Still a mile or so from any shelter. "'Of all the bad roads I ever saw in my life, this is the worst!' the man exclaimed.

"'Oh, look!' said the girl, As she pointed to a far-off scene, a smile played over her face. There, under the rain-washed sky, the towering buildings and gleaming roofs of the city lay like a picture in the soft, clear afternoon sunlight. "'Isn't it beautiful?' she exclaimed. "'And on this muddy road, too.'" Friends it's like that in this world. That's the Spirit.

What do we see? God's space, city in the sky coming, or the evil and the mud and the storm about us? Let's look in the right direction. For some day, God will give us more than a glimpse of that city, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. And there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying.

For the former things are passed away. In the land of fadeless day lies the city foursquare. ♪ Never pass away ♪ And there is no night there ♪ God shall wipe away all tears ♪ There's no death, no pain, nor fears. And they count not time by years, for there is no night there. There is no night there.

There they need no sunshine bright in the city 4 square. In the city full of square. For the Lamb is all the light, And there is no night there. God shall wipe away all tears. There's no death, no pain, nor fears.
