Should Christians Do Thai Chi?


I've been asked many times, is it okay to do Tai Chi or Qigong or martial arts? Let me try to explain it in terms of energy and what the belief, the foundation belief of Tai Chi and the arts are. Okay let's take a look at this flower, alright, and this plant, this leaf, alright. The basic belief of Tai Chi and Qigong and all that is that there is energy in the whole universe and that energy is divine, it's God. And God is in the leaf, God is in the flower.

And Qigong and all these exercises and meditation is to tap into the energy to get more of it. But if the divinity of God is in the leaf, in the flower, then it is also in man. Okay and here is where it starts. The meditative techniques discover the divinity in man. The Qigong and the martial arts believe in this, that the whole world there is a positive and negative, Good and evil, hard and soft, you and I.

And Tai Chi is around this thing of hard and soft, or the yin and the yang. Okay, let me try to explain this. Let me put this aside, okay? Now, a Tai Chi master, he goes into a pose, right? And when he faces an opponent, it's the soft side, and the hard side is here.

So it's hard and soft. So if an opponent attacks him, he is soft, he lifts it or he avoids, and he's still balanced. So Taiji is about balance, a balance of the soft and the hard. And when he shifts from the hard to the soft, this side becomes soft and this side becomes hard. Okay, but it is not about hard and soft.

It's not about 2 things. The master is the 1 who has blended hard and soft. He has achieved the perfect blend of hard and soft. The master is not the 1 who is absolutely good. The master of philosophy and thinking and religion.

It's not the 1 who's absolutely good, but the 1 who has blended good and evil. To blend it so that what he has as the the supreme product is neither good nor evil. Now I ask you, as a Christian, is Tai Chi okay? Because when you become a master in Tai Chi, you have blended hard and soft. You have tapped into the energy of God.

You become God, supreme. And in the supreme, what's supreme? It's the blending of good and evil. When it is neither good nor evil. Now what does God say to us?

God says there's good, there's evil. I am absolutely good. And He will offer, He offers to help us through Jesus to bring us from evil where we start off to become absolutely good like Him. That's Christianity. So it's vastly different.
